Sweet Sarah was kind enough to invite a few of us over to teach us her very own salted sesame secret. It is super easy and is a fun and fast project to do with friends. So, read below and start saving those almost-gone jelly jars to put your very own salted sesame in.
INGREDIENTS: sesame seeds and salt (yeahp, thats it!)
Okay, here's what you do:
Step 1: Mix
Pour 30 tbsp of sesame seeds and 2 tbsp of fine salt in a bowl, stir mixture together.
Step 2: Toast
Toast mixture in a frying pan on medium to low. Toast until it starts to pop a little, like the sound of popcorn (I love that sound!).
Step 3: Water Bath
Remove from stove and put in a water bath (seen below). Fill your sink with a shallow amount of water and sit pan inside sink to stop the pan from cooking.
Step 4: Grind
Pour 1/3rd of the mixture into a blender and grind. You decide if you want it fine or chunky, anyway you like it works! Repeat with the remaining 2/3rds.
Step 5: Jar It
Pour it in those jelly jars, way to recycle!
Step 6: Use It
Pour and voila, sesame seed topper! Use on salads, stir fry, lettuce wraps or pour some in your hand for a snack (yeahp i do that for a salty pick me up!).
Heather, this blog is amazing. I just spent the last hour reading! Your life is fab. So happy for you! - Lauren (from DT at BYU)
